DACSA participates in the project PLAGUEFREE with “Plasticos del Segura” and the Technological Institute of Packaging, Transport and Logistics (ITENE).
The aim of the project PLAGUEFREE is the development of a new packaging which will overcome the barriers that have current flexible films used for packaging dry food products such as rice. This new packaging incorporates active agents that prevent the growth and/or development of insects.
With the completion of this project it is expected to obtain a commercial solution which will be a very effective tool for preventing insect pests in these products, specifically rice, giving the maximum guarantee for consumer safety and a higher quality in alimentary products.

Practically all dry food products are susceptible to insect infestation. In the case of cereals and their derivatives, insects can perforate the packaging, consume the product, damage it substantially and/or contaminate it.
The growing demand by consumers for safer and higher quality food products, motivates the development of this project.
PLAGUEFREE is funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, through the programme “INNPACTO” with project reference number: IPT-2012-1056-060000.
